Shield Bearers

Shield Bearers

While searching for some other petroglyphs in Natural Bridges National Monument a few weeks ago, Jackson and I climbed up and found this pictograph panel, which was an unexpected surprise. These white shield-bearing figures are painted over some old petroglyphs. Actually, while searching this area for more rock art we found plenty of very faint petroglyphs that didn’t photograph very well. When we first arrived at this site, the shadow of a nearby tree was casting it’s shadow on part of the panel. We stuck around until the shadow finally moved off the pictographs so that I could get a better photo. It was a nice find.

A few weekends ago I went down to Natural Bridges National Monument with my friend Jackson so that we could search for some rock art and ruins. This particular pictograph was one of the main sites I was looking for on this trip. We actually ended up finding everything I was hoping to find while we were down there. It was a great trip!

Kachina Bridge Ruin

Kachina Bridge Ruin

It’s been a little while since I posted a photo of a ruin on the blog, so here’s a photo I took this past weekend while exploring Natural Bridges National Monument. This small ruin is located near Kachina Bridge and there are some pretty cool pictographs and petroglyphs nearby as well. If you look closely inside the ruin, you will see small anthropomorphs painted inside.
